RR: Maignan makes desire clear regarding Milan future amid recent speculation

By Oliver Fisher -

Mike Maignan’s future has become the subject of speculation in the last few days with suggestions that he could depart AC Milan, however a report has put a different spin on the matter.

Maignan’s name has been circulating in the media more than usual over the past few days, starting with Saturday’s game against Juventus which he was forced to withdraw from at the last minute after sustained an adductor strain in the warm-ups.

Then, Sky reported that Milan are reflecting on the future of the former Lille man, who arrived for €16m in the summer of 2021. They cited the fact that he has so far missed 39 games over the past three seasons due to injury, as well as the possibility of making a big capital gain on his sale.

Reports have suggested that the Frenchman will soon reach a natural crossroads in his Milan career because of his contract situation and the fact that there are doubts about both his form and fitness.

According to what is being reported by Radio Rossonera however, Maignan’s desire remains to continue wearing the Milan shirt despite all of the rumours and the fact that he has just over two years left on his contract.

He has ‘found a balance’ with the Rossoneri, he is very happy and has ‘no intention’ of leaving the club in the summer even if offers come in from abroad that might tempt the management.

  1. Everyone has the desire to continue until it comes to the greens right? Donnarumma, Kessie, Hakan. A big fat check is where player’s loyalty lies nowadays. The green ambition.

    1. what loyalty are you talking about? imagine you have a job and you and all your friends are doing well and all of a sudden your friends get a pay rise but you dont. the company dosnt think you should earn more then your worth. bare in mind there are other companies who have contacted you and told you “no no no you are worth more then you have and we will pay you double what you earn because thats your worth.”. dont be a hypocrite ofcourse you would leave for something better because those companies are paying you your worth.

you’ve already seen countless times that milan under pay players. we’ve been doing that for a very long time its nothing new.

as big of a fan as i am, if Milan are under paying the players that have performed great things for us then im not against them leaving to a club that can pay him his worth.

    2. That’s exactly what came to mind when I read the article.
Saying that he’s happy to stay with 2.7 mill salary at Milan and wanting 8+ million to renew is a big contradiction.

If he wants to stay, he shouldn’t make requests that are crazy for Serie A. Juventus wants to get rid of Szczesny because he has 6+ million salary, and Maignan asks for 8+ which is crazy for a GK in Serie A, especially considering he lost 1/3 of the games so far, and 1/3 of the games haven’t been great.

Sure, he can get that high salary in another team … so he needs to decide, does he want a higher salary in another club or a lower salary here.

All the ‘I’m happy at Milan’ is just to stall for time and put pressure on the management.

  2. One of our most important players, on and off the field. If Calabria is benched, he should be the captain. Last season he missed many games and we struggled in Serie A. Kudos to the previous management to find a good backup after the Tatarusanu horror show. Now let’s figure why he’s so often injured and fix the situation, we can’t have so many injuries every year.

    1. A) nobody uses gk as captains anymore.. b) tata was decent. You people always make it sound like he singlehandedly made us loss games. He didn’t. In fact his gk stats that season was higher than mikes..

      but who likes facts..

tata bad, worst thing to happen to Milan besides Krunic, right?

      1. Regardless of position, when I look at the roster I don’t see many options. I love Théo as a player but he is often crying on the floor or acting stupid. Leao is a primadonna, not a leader. I think you underrate the human qualities, values and leadership of Mike. When you go to San Siro, you can see him way more than in TV. He’s always speaking to the defense, cheering at the players. He embodies self-confidence.

Tatarusanu was ok but he’s far from Mike or even Sportiello for that matter. I have many friends fans of OL and they were making so much fun when we signed him from there. He’s now playing for Abha Club in Saudi Arabia.

        1. Well when there is a situation that requires a captain to step up on the other side of the pitch we gonna have mike run around the pitch to talk with the ref? It’s just silly.
Them qualities are there if he has or doesn’t have the band on..

I wouldn’t trust leao to lead a middle school team let alone professionals.. hehe

  3. Mike has the character to be a captain, but not the form. He has missed an ENTIRE season worth of games due to injuries… And we don’t even know of he sees out the rest of his contract because I don’t think he’s getting 7mil a year.

  4. Notice the article did not talk about reducing his salary request, which is the key component.

He still feels he should be top or equal paid player. Paying him 7+ mil would be a huge chunk of our wage budget.

Combine that with his constant injuries.

Unless he agrees to sign for under 4.5m a year, I think Milan should sell and look for someone more reliable. It’s not worth it financially for Milan to sign an oft injured expensive GK.

Only in his head is he that important. His Ego is unchecked at this point and for what?

PS. Signing a talented replacement for under 25m wouldn’t be too difficult either. In Italy or abroad.
