Watch: Milan loanee Saelemaekers rescues point for Bologna with free-kick

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan loanee Alexis Saelemaekers rescued a point for Bologna in their game against Udinese earlier today. He found the back of the net with a free-kick that caught the goalkeeper, and perhaps the player himself, by surprise.

Saelemaekers joined Bologna on a season-long loan in the summer and he has done well, scoring four goals and assisting an additional three. The fourth strike arrived today as Bologna managed to clinch a point against Udinese.

Thiago Motta’s side conceded the opener in the first half and then got a red card at the start of the second, making life very difficult. In the 78th minute, however, Saelemaekers stepped up for a free-kick and managed to catch the goalkeeper off guard with a good finish.

We will never know for sure if that’s what he intended to do, but it seemed to be more of a fluke than anything. In any case, the Belgian showcased his importance again and Bologna are expected to exercise the €9.5m clause in his contract this summer.

  1. He looked as surprised as everyone else it went in. Salad’s had a great season and would be decent backup in my book but looks like he’s staying at Bologna.

    1. He’s now scored 4 Serie A goals to Chuk’s 1.

So that 25m or whatever was well spent.

Certainly couldn’t have done with putting that money into a CF.

      1. struggling Chuku has 3 goals and 2 assist overall in 1254 minutes of gameplay and a in from salad has 4 goals and 3 assists in 1900 minutes of gameplay.. who are you kidding?

        1. Go to sleep. I live in Australia???

Those goals and assists have been achieved with a lesser team and the 25m we spent has only produced 3 goals, 2 and 1254 minutes of gameplay.

But again make sure you keep expectations as low as possible.

          What’s 25m after all?
